There is news on this matter. It is news in the shape of a new book. For now a new e-book (which, I admit, is quite shapeless).
This is what I’m talking about. The e-book is rolling out to Smashwords and Amazon as I type this, and once Amazon has approved it, the book should also be available on many other platforms.
What can you expect?
A mysterious archer goes around, shooting people seemingly at random. Since the arrows clearly have a Native American origin, the police get in touch with Sheila. While this goes on, Josy gets into an occupational tight spot.
Sheila is also put in charge of handling a theatre group that wants to perform a play at the Mighty Oaks resort, while she’s looking after two special guests of whom she grows quite fond.
Then there’s the big surprise that Jeremy has for Sheila, but that’s not all: Mandy and Josy team up to arrange something special for Sheila and Jeremy.
These and more adventures are waiting for you. Dive right in. Just don’t get hit by Sacred Arrows.
Yes, it’s true. I have something to tell you and it is a good thing.
Aglow, by Will Forest
It is the thing called Naked Crow 7. My friend and fellow author Will Forest has managed to fight his way through the manuscript and point out where I did dumb things, used wrong words and such things. That is the life of the editor which can be a lot of fun.
I’m currently going through his comments and suggestions, which means that Naked Crow 7 is creeping towards completion and should be ready for reading consumption within the coming months. Hmm, does that make it read-y? Hmm? 😀
This of course means that I should start ‘worrying’ about the cover for the new Naked Crow book as well. Luckily I’ve had plenty of time during the rewrite of most of it to think about it, so I’ve gained some time there. There will probably be an arrow on it. And some other stuff.
See? Just an arrow is a bit dull, isn’t it?
It looks like I have some work cut out for me for the coming days. Naked Crow 8 is in the writing phase so the series doesn’t end with 7, Unsworth Manor book 2 is coming along just fine (still no exploding airships) and the scifi I’m writing on my phone is coming to the point of the final battle, so to speak. Which in fact is going to be a proper battle.
(Oh, little tip: see the cover of Aglow up there? Click it. It will teleport you to Amazon where you can buy it. If you haven’t read it yet, you miss out on a good read.)
You may think by now that I’m doing nothing at all. No new book has come out in ages. What the hell is that Walker guy doing?
Well, that Walker guy is writing. And I’m writing a lot. That’s the terror of having a vivid imagination and too many stories to fit in one day or week.
The sequel to The Unsworth Manor Nudes is progressing nicely. Each chapter is checked almost while I’m writing it (not really but as soon as one’s done I send it off to my fellow author Ted Bun of Rags and Riches fame). As soon as that’s all done the book will be nearly ready to be published – but that’s not where we are yet.
The seventh Naked Crow book is coming along well. I’ve finally reached the point where things come together. This has taken much longer than I had hoped, but when you get your non-existent knickers in a writing knot, you will have to undo all the knotting and rewrite. After cutting things back to almost 1000 words I’m proud to say that the story now is over 63.000 words (around 180 pages) so things look well in that respect.
The urban science fiction I mentioned a few posts ago (in the far past LOL!) is also growing. That’s over 53.000 words (150 pages) by now. Remember, I’m writing that on my phone, just for the challenge.
Yes. I have moved all the paperback books from CreateSpace to Amazon’s printing service. CreateSpace is going to disappear so this had to happen. That too took up a lot of time because a few covers presented problems and once you have to mess with that it’s fun all the way from the start.
And so far the news for this post. I hope that I’ve reached the end of Naked Crow 7 by the next post but I doubt that. There’s still too much that needs to be written down, loose ends to be tied up, editing to be done and all that fun. But it’s coming. Before Christmas. I think. 🙂
A while ago I had to go back to the start of Naked Crow 7, as there were things that didn’t work out in the story. For that I discarded a lot of words and started writing again. Now I have to go back to chapter 2 and rip out some other bits and pieces.
Naked Crow book 1
Originally I was set on having a certain character appear in the book. On the rewrite this character left in chapter 11 and he refuses to come back.
This means I have to resolve the situation. That in turn means I’m going to remove the entire person from the story. He was a good help for Sheila after an accident (not something Sheila was in) but since he decided to move on before the story’s done, I need to give said person his freedom and come up with another way to get this all done.
On behalf of the entire crew of the Mighty Oaks I apologise for this problem, as it means the book will take even longer to be completed. It will be better for it though.
Over at MeWe someone asked when Naked Crow 7 would come out. I had to disappoint him.
The kind person in question responded to my cheerful outburst that I had added over 900 words to the story that day, which sounds like a lot. Considering that an average Naked Crow story consists of around 70,000 words, 900 words isn’t much, but it adds a nice amount, certainly.
There was a problem with this story. With all my best intentions I started writing, adding some sub-stories to it. After some 25,000 words I discovered that the start of one of the sub-lines in the story wasn’t touched any more. It had nothing to add to the story, so I had to go back and rip that out. Which meant there was a hole in the story that I had to fill up. In order to do so I had to rip out more bits and pieces.
In the end 18,000 words remained, setting me back quite a bit. Yes, I slaughtered some 7,000 words. And they need to be added in order to get the story up to where it was before I started the massacre. But the book will be better for it!
So what’s the surprise?
No, it’s not Naked Crow 8 yet, sorry. 😉
Instead I’m working on two more stories. One is a science fiction-ish book about Henry and Hannah who get thrown into a strange situation. I already know what the cover of this book will look like, which is remarkable. Usually I know this by the time I reach the last chapter.
Yes, the new sci-fi has to do with a nude beach…
The other book is about Emma Nelson who starts off as a cook in a university kitchen. Her life undergoes an odd change when something happens. I have the ‘something’ written but I feel I have to change that. A lot. Plenty of options have already come up for that. This story is an urban fantasy, which means that fantasy and real world will mix.
Hmm, in that light, the book about Henry and Hannah will be an urban science fiction. Gosh… I had to look that up and it turns out that more people came up with that. Have a look at goodreads. Of course those aren’t naturist urban science fiction books! 😀
Well, I hope you like this update on what I’m doing at the moment. I’ll try and keep in touch a bit more frequently.
Coming week I’ll be off for a while, on a short trip to the Canary Islands, for some sunshine and relaxing. My work situation is somewhat unstable at the moment so I need to get away from it all. It will also help me figure out a few story-related things, I’m convinced.
Writing versus love. This is where Queen and I don’t go in the same direction. Their crazy little thing’s called love, mine’s called writing.
In a galaxy far, far away I started writing Naked Crow 7. I knew what it would be about, figured out some of the extra story-lines and set off towards the distant planet of Arrakis, because the spice must flow. Anyone familiar with the Dune-books by Frank Herbert knows what I am talking about.
Unfortunately, by the time I got to chapter 11 I began having some doubts. Was this spice or just some cheap cinnamon knock-off?
After writing some more, it became more and more clear to me that the basic idea of Naked Crow 7 was good, but that something was off. It was as if C3P0 and R2D2 had travelled to the Dune world and were fighting Sand Worms, instead of the Fremen of Arrakis handling that job (as depicted here to your and my right).
Come in chapter 12 of Naked Crow 7. The feeling of “nope” had taken on the size of an actual Sand Worm by now, so I decided to trace back through the story, locate which wormhole (no, not a Sand Worm Hole!) had opened and from where that was leaking oddities and inconsistencies. As I went back further I got other ideas for the story. Better ideas. Ideas that… well… more or less made is clear that everything I’d written before the third paragraph in the first chapter was still okay…
So this is where the other bits of text ended.
In the bucket.
91 pages of writing gone poof.
But not to worry: they will be replaced by 91 (and more) pages that do work.
Sometimes it happens that a bit of text is scrapped. Sometimes it’s a big bit. Like this. But I would rather rewrite the whole shebang than present you with an inferior story that’s not even consistent everywhere.
I’m looking for disabled nudists. I would like to ask you a few questions. Don’t worry, this is not for something bad or lewd; I am researching for the next “Naked Crow” book. For that I need your experiences, your opinions, your views and desires.
I guess you all remember this image from before I went very silent. I was on a short vacation during which I wrote a lot of words for Mirror Earth 3 and Naked Crow 7. Some people wouldn’t call that a vacation but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
If the gods of publishing are with me, Naked Crow 6 will hit the e-shelves on June 1st of this here year 2017. Provided the lords of paper over at Createspace are willing, the paperback will become available a month later, so on July 1st. Also in 2017. In case you wondered.
So there you have it. The first of the next two months. If all goes well.
Yes, there is news about the Naked Crow series. Big news. News that comes in the form of the sixth book!
It’s going to happen quite soon now. The book is written, checked, corrected, edited, corrected even more and now I’m in the final stages of getting things together. Creating e-books, final judgment on the cover and creating the paperback version of the book. That last bit always takes terribly long so I’ll get the e-books out as soon as they’re ready. No need to make you wait for the paper version if you’re not waiting for that anyway. (Did you see what I did there? 😉 )
Right. Let’s have a look at that cover.
Naked Crow 6 – Hidden Village
So there you have it. Title and image all in one. No details on the story yet, but you’ll find out soon enough now. I’m quite confident that I’ll be able to get the e-books out early June of this year, probably in the first week.
I hope this makes the approaching weekend and weeks somewhat more bearable. Thanks for your patience. It’s appreciated and will soon be rewarded!
